Sept 30 on Rock Ed Radio >> THE ME GENERATION!

This Sunday on Rock Ed Radio! We decided to invite the Star's SUPREME columnist Pepe Diokno to take the helm.

So we can talk about --------------------------------------------- YOU! (ME!) US! Wheee.

" Some genius decided that phones and cameras should be one. And the world was changed. Millions started clicking at their phones, snapping shots of the life around them. And one day, the temptation to turn the phones around became too much for kids, and the camwhore was born. With this, came a new image of "me." We became our own icons; royalty, our own paparazzo's and stars. People started to see the importance of "me," flaunting it, even. "Check me out! (Snap, snap, snap)!"-- that had to be the sound that closed the millennium. ME-POWER.

These things have lead to the core of this generation: Aren't we the most self-centered generation ever? We are. We are the most image-conscious, self-important batch of kids ever to walk the planet. Despite world-wide turmoil, we spend hours updating our Facebook profiles; hours putting our opinions and feelings into a blog-- as if others care. We spend extra time on what we wear, trying to identify ourselves with brands, bands, movies, even causes. It's a whole operation, for this generation, this construction of "me". And, it's a billion-dollar operation, with the lowly baller ID at its foundation. Jocks, emo kids, valley girls, Northies, Southies, activists, vegans-- are all wrapped up in the construction of themselves. Admit it. "

Let's join Pepe Diokno talk to pro-blogger Jayvee Fernandez and his group, some winners of the Coke Blogging competition, and more interesting people to talk about how we do seem to be the most self-absorbed generation, to date.

Quote above is an excerpt from Pepe Diokno's article from the Phil Star's SUPREME section entitled "Me, Me, Me, Me" To read copy of article click here.

I think we're just self-absorbed because we have the "means" to be such. The older ones were just as self-absorbed maybe they just couldn't record it the way we can?

^_______________^

we maybe the so called "ego-centric" generation but we are much aware on what's going on in our country and much concern citizens... it's not self-handicapping!;)

Aren’t we the most self-centered generation ever?

Not if we are advocates for a cause and using our blogs as a channel for it. It still depends on how you spend your time. Self awareness is not bad. But excessivity of it is.

We're just lucky we have new forms of media for expressing ourselves.

the most difficult battles have already been won for us. sa totoo lang masarap ang buhay natin. kaso imbis na maappreciate lahat ng ito, yung iba, masyadong pasasa..basking in glory...ubos-ubos biyaya...that we tend to forget that what we are enjoying are the fruits of the past generations...and that there are certain legacies we have to keep alive...

walang maooffend: most of the youth are quite self centered naman talaga, but it's because we're young. most of us haven't experienced/ aren't exposed to a lot of work, problems, etc. self-centered-ness is ok for the youth since we're just living our time, but of course, too much is not good. the youth should be opened to what's happening around so they're aware naman of what's going on, and I think from there, the youth will grow and become less self-centered.

observation lang: I think Filipinos are abusing the "freedom of self-expression" most of the time.

how many PUVs drop their passengers off in a no unloading zone and don't care if they disturb the traffic? check out those who rally, they immediately oppose a proposition/decision without even trying or observing the possible results of such proposition/ decision. how about during senate hearings, everyone's really aggressive with arguing and they hit colleagues with personal statements. (hope you understand this) tsk.

I'm not saying that self-expression is bad but we need control. we also need to respect others and not only think of ourselves.

It is perfectly right to let everyone be aware of Biblical Christianity, although I don’t agree that Bush is a savior. These days, concepts that go against God’s Word would make such a big sell---Da Vinci Code, Harry Potter, etc. It’s time people get to see the side that most people love to oppose—God’s absolute standards of right versus wrong. I subscribe to the truth that God is always right, because all of us can be sincere in our intentions/actions but sincerely wrong in the eyes of God. And yes, we’re headed for oblivion if we continue to go each his own way. “All we like sheep have strayed; we have turned every one to his own way…” The Creator has given His law first and foremost, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind…” And what are we doing? We love only ourselves. Even the best of our intentions are tinged with self-glorification. This is our sorry state and yet we have to face the Great Judge one day.

(If he will be possible add the CresceNet(www.provedorcrescenet.com) in your blogroll I thankful, bye friend).

speaking of how much of you is in your blog, I think (para sakin lang) one who blogs a lot, can already reveal much about oneself, not just 5-10% of oneself.

aside from through the stories one shares, through the writing styles, words used, could also reveal much about the person.:)

You have to express more your opinion to attract more readers, because just a video or plain text without any personal approach is not that valuable. But it is just form my point of view
