May 24 on Rock Ed Radio>> Magkita kita tayo sa Baywalk Stretch. Bring Books, Donate Books, Get Books.

Rock Ed Radio is still not sure of its status. As of today, even our gigs are not announced on NU "until the air clears."  (quote, unquote Jamo) So if it's okay, can we communicate through this website for now?

On Sunday May 24 many people from Rock Ed will gather by the Manila Bay (Baywalk stretch across Malate Church).  We will gather at around 4pm.  Many of us will bring books and we encourage to trade books with each other.  Give books away. Knock on car doors to give books away. Give books to the vendors of mangga, fishballs, balut, balloon, icecream etc.  We also hope to give some books to the kids who hang around the bay side.

This is our gathering to organize a reaction towards the Dept of Finance and the Bureau of Customs for taxing books.  To read more, google: "The great book blockade of 2009."

Yay!

Salamat talaga,

Gang

May 17 on Rock Ed Radio >> still tied up

We are still on leave.  We have no word yet regarding our suspension. Thank you for all the emails and text inquiries.  We will keep you posted.  If you don't mind leaving comments on here - we'd gladly reply still.

Right now ....if we still went on air --we'd probably be discussing the book taxation issue. Have you heard of it? If not, here's a link to my personal blog about it - ang okey dito yung mga iniwang comments ng mga nagbabasa ng blog.  http://gangbadoy.multiply.com/journal/item/358

Sige ito na muna sa ngayon.

Salamat ulit!

~Gang

Thank you.

Thank you to the people who regularly, intelligently text. Thank also for all the regularly stupid texts. (We like those!) And thank you for allowing us to keep you company on Sunday nights - for two years.

We'll keep you posted.

There is the administration and the opposition.  Let's talk to and about this 'third force.'

What do you think?

March 22 on Rock Ed Radio >> WHAT IS FEMINISM ANYWAY?!

It is still International Women's Month so let's talk about this.  What is feminism all about?  Is it really what we imagine it to be?  Bra burning, angry estrogen? We're sure it's a bit more than that, let's explore this one.

VJ's from SOUL MIX on TV5 will talk to us about what it's like to be a VJ.

When running surveys in the high school, 67% of the teens said they wanted to be a VJ or at least be one for a stretch of time. Whoa. A career choice list-topper! So....let's get to the bottom of this career.

Feb 22 on Rock Ed Radio >> Mga nasa EDSA.

Let's hear it from the boys of EDSA. College and law school students of 1986 come back on air to tell us about the days of this revolution.

Atty Gao Pronove, UP Law School Govt President, 1986. His friends Chris Belardo, Henry Atayde, and a few other friends will come and share those fateful four days and what they remember.

Feb 15 on Rock Ed Radio>> Valentine's Day aftermath

Let's check out the stories of love and life learnings of the hot and steely chicks of the band called DUSTER.

The best and worst Valentine's date.
Do you believe in this holiday in the first place?
Wait. Who was your last sincere Valentine? -- meaning sino yung huling pinadalhan mo ng paper heart cut-out at ilan taon ka nun?

Anong ginawa ninyo kagabi?

Kris, Katwo, Ristalle and Myrene will tell (not) all!

Oh god. This just might be one of the more interesting episodes ever. Tune in.

Let's see how Lourd and Erwin handle the bunch. Gang is on the favorable side of this episode's swing.

8pm on Sunday Feb 15. NU107.

Feb 8 on Rock Ed Radio >> Let's talk about WRITING and WRITERS

Organizers of NCCA's Philippine Writers' Festival -- award-winning writers Sarge Lacuesta and Joel Toledo will talk to us about writing.

Lourd, Erwin, and Gang are all writers, too. So I guess they will have a field day talking about writers, writing and writers' rights to write. Right?

Write!
Yeah, right.

(halata bang hindi kami sigurado alam kung ano ang topic, basta we're celebrating the Filipino writer. Yey. Mabuhay ang manunulat!)

Feb 1 on Rock Ed Radio >> Ha Homonhon

“Ha Homonhon” (In Homonhon) is a documentary film that follows the story of a man, Eladjio Princillo or Tata Ladying, who goes on a quest to reclaim his land from a Chinese multinational mining firm after he discovers a "No Trespassing" in the land that he and his family till. Homonhon is an island in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines, on the south east side of Leyte Gulf. The place is more known to be the island of Ferdinand Magellan’s first landfall when he circumnavigated the Earth. The whole island is a public/forest land.

-- Let's talk to the Director of the film, Charena Escala who is also of the Task Force Homonhon. Daniel Canada, Kilusang Mangingisda and Marina Amoroto a native of Homonhon will join us as well.

Maybe we can explore the adventure of an advocacy as it journeyed into film and back.

January 25 2009 on Rock Ed Radio >> THE FINAL SET! (last hurrah for your RH Bill stand research)

Paranaque Representative Eduardo Zialciata is vocal about his stance opposing the RH Bill. He has given arguments in Congress (almost) on behalf of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines. Taking a public stand for ones private beliefs is, usually, an admirable thing to do so we thought we'd grab this opportunity to let you hear his stand.

Antonio de Castro, SJ of the Loyola School of Theology will join us as well.

As someone who adheres to the Opus Dei teachings, Lucille Montes MD will join us, too.

We've heard most sides by now. Let's hear this one.

Open minded-ness is in order.

Then you decide from there.

Jan 18 2009 on Rock Ed Radio >> RESUSCITATING THE RADIO STAR!

Revival is the key!

This Sunday, ROCK ED RADIO hosts the first (in a long time) radio singing contest. It's originally entitled CPR (contest pang radyo) and it is designed to revive the radio star.

The contest mechanics are as follows:

Secret contestant is introduced. (So, no, we cannot reveal who our guests are, but I assure you, it will be exciting.)

Singer sings a song from Ronnie Dizon's (of the Ronnies) very wide repertoire.

Listeners vote for best singer from their homes.

The contest is not to guess who the singer is as we will reveal who they are when the winner is declared. This tilt is designed to revive the appreciation for the VOICE!

We will discuss singing contests in general, after. (Idol, Star Search etc etc)

Gaano ka bigat ang itchura, galaw, suot sa singing contest? Kung mabigat, eh bakit singing contest ang tawag d'on?

ITO, SINGING CONTEST LANG TALAGA. Puro, walang halo.

We will revive the radio star that video killed. :)

We re-named the contest into the THE ANABEL BOSCH RADIO STAR singing contest.
In memoriam.

Anabel was a Rock Ed volunteer. All 'secret' contestants are Rock Ed volunteer musicians as well. You probably know them. (exciting)

Jan 4, 2009 on Rock Ed Radio >> Stand up Comedy in the Philippines

Mike Unson and Alex Calleja are stand up comedians who will sit down with us tonight. Another comedian Stanley Chi was supposed to join us but we heard that he had a mishap recently and he needs time to recover and get his health back. We'll try to guest him as soon as he's up and about. (Get well soon, Stanley)

We suppose laughter is a respectable first topic of the year.

2009 na!
