May 25 on Rock Ed Radio >> "INDIE: Ako, artist"

We are often surprised when we hear a good song on mainstream radio and find out that it's self-produced. Which raises the question: "Does a big label validate talent?"

Indie labels are on the rise but the self-produced work is another beast altogether.

Let's talk to artists who manage and produce themselves. Patrick Alvarez is producing "Wonder" his first album, Aimee Marcos is the drummer of the band called The Dorques (also self-producing so far...) and Dystocia Curve is a highly prolific band that is still in the outskirts of the scene. They have recorded approximately 60 tracks by now and they plan to release an album within the year.

Poet and Executive Producer of Panoramanila Pictures, Jourdan Sebastian will tell us about the behind-the-scenes vibe of the independently produced film entitled "Ploning."

The creative scene in the Philippines is brimming with robust talent. Why wait for the breaks, they say? Well, they're not. (Bravo)

What do you think of self-producing? Will you ever self-publish, produce, record, distribute?

Artist, produce thyself!

Tell us why or why not.

sino-sino na bang yumaman as an indie artist?

salamat!

maraming akong kaibigan na magaling na magaling gumawa ng kanta, talented! but they don't get the gigs, where do I tell them to go, who can they approach to get their music "out there" ?

I think some indie artists are better than those na nasa labels at bumebenta pero panay pa-cute! I'm not referring to anyone in particular, but some are really pa-cute! walang talent.

I don't understand Indie artists, bakit parang a notch higher yung kaartehan nila?

Do you guys still dream na masuportahan kayo ng major labels?

Anonymous said...

Sometimes, even cool bands become uncool when they're in a label. They're commanded by the label to guest on talk shows and play silly games, etc.

Indie should stay indie forever!

What do you think about acts like Arctic MOnkeys who grew famous from net file sharing and they were eventually signed by Domino Records?

Eh Yano? Indie ba? Eh, everybody's singing their songs!

Self-marketing transcends the beauty of i.p.r..Since indie-ism dives in a wave of entering the fear of being unaccepted by the ones you sing your song to, I guess self-marketing breaks the barrier eh..When you do self-marketing, it's without a doubt getting consolation from letting people hear your art, music, etc..As long as you're heard, and as long as your art is expressed, that's it.. Talk about copyright systems..
